Grocery Store Guides

Copps(or Pick’n’Save or Rainbow)
Copps has great deals and good prices so be on the lookout.
The most important thing that Copps does is double coupons in Wednesdays, but with restrictions:
  • You can only double up to 5 coupons.
  • You can only double coupons that are up to a value of $1, any coupon over that will not be doubled for any amount.
  • They will not double coupons that say do not double.
  • You must spend $25 in order to have coupons double.
I would recommend that if you don’t have the $25, buy a gift card for Copps for the difference and use it to pay for your groceries next time.
Copps does accept manufacturer coupons.
Copps will let you stack a manufacturer coupon with a store coupon.
You cannot use coupons on items that are gotten free. For example, if there is a B1G1 sale, you cannot use 2 coupons.
No overage will be given on coupons that are greater than the face value of a product.

Sentry Metcalf’s
A lot of places have a Sentry, but Madison is unique in that it has a Sentry Metcalf’s. It is a upscale market with a wide variety of interesting foods.
Now, upscale does mean more expensive, but there are good deals to be found(especially on produce), and great treats to be had.
The best thing about Sentry, however, is the free Sunday paper. If you spend $5 on a Sunday, you get a free paper. I usually have a few items I need on Sunday so I get it then, and I have a friend who goes shopping on Sunday and gives me his paper, and I tell everyone else to pick up a paper and save the coupons for me. It’s a great deal and free coupons.

Cub Foods
Cub foods puts a lot of coupons in their fliers and often has several in store coupon books. Keep you eyes open and these at hand.
Cub foods accepts manufacture coupons
Cub does not double coupons
Cub will accept expired coupons up to 90 days after the expiration date.
Cub does not take competitors coupons and does not price match.
If they advertise a deal like 5/$5, you can buy one and get it for $1. However, if there is a Cub coupon for 5/$5, you will need to buy 5 to use the coupon.

Trader Joe’s
I think that Trader Joe’s can get overlooked as a couponers destination. I didn’t shop there for a long time because I though that it was expensive, but then I actually went there and realized what great value is to be had.
If you are looking to shop for organic or natural food on budget, Trader Joe’s is the best way to go. To be honest, after reading extensively about organic food I am not much of one for seeking it out(and I’d be happy to discuss this with anyone who would like to), but I do love the interesting selection and great prices at Trader Joe’s.
Trader Joe’s does accept manufacturer coupons, but they also have another great policy: a money-back guarantee. If you don’t like what you bought or it doesn’t meet your expectations, bring it back for a full refund. How many other stores do that?!
Trader Joe’s does not do sales or specials, but I think that you will find some great, new options. Not everything is rock bottom process, but there are some great deals.

Whole Foods
Whole Foods is a place that I shop occasionally. Even with coupons or sales, their process can still be expensive, but I do find myself there for some great produce or items that cannot be found at other stores.
Whole Foods does put printable coupons on their website, and does have fliers and coupon books in stores. They also have sales and specials.
They do take manufacturer coupons and they will combine a store coupon with manufacturer coupon(though this happens rarely).
I think that waiting for a sale is a good way to try interesting things at Whole Foods. They usually put a meat and/or fish item as well as a cheese type on sale every week or so and they have staff who are very willing to cut whatever size you want.
Their produce can also be quite amazing at certain times of the year, but be careful not to overpay either for the produce or other items. Some times you can get the exact same thing at another store for a lot less.

Hy-Vee
Hy-Vee is a store that I don’t go to that often, but will sometimes make a trip for specials.
Hy-Vee often has coupons that they print in fliers and booklets as well as sales. They have a lot of sales that are only good for 2 days or 12 hours so you have to watch and keep up to date.
They will accept manufacturers’ coupons.
They will stack a manufacturer’s coupon with a store coupon.
They will not accept expired coupons.
They will not accept coupons that take off over the face value of the product(i.e. no overage).
They will not honor coupons that give you something free like B1G1 coupons.
They can limit the amount of the coupon they will honor(ex. You have a coupon for $3 off, they may say that you can only get $2 off).
Hy-Vee does have some interesting things like the massive area of food that you can eat there or take to go, but I have personally found that finding items in the store is difficult and they seem to run out of sale items quickly.
